Aalto University cooperation
Top designers from Aalto University are involved in the development of Meeko electric scooters. Industrial design, School of Art and Design, Aalto University, Helsinki.
Simo, professor of industrial design at Aalto University, approached us with an exciting idea: top designers to work and the comprehensive challenge and re-creation of Meeko - the electric scooter as the main theme of the "form exploration" course.
From the beginning, Meeko has been an innovative electric scooter brand that believes in quality, inventive design and its own courage and will to innovate. Although the assumed amount of work would be massive, the decision was ultimately easy. Roll up your sleeves and get to work!
The years 2020 were spent among those who participated in the industrial design and "Form exploration" course. The goal was to challenge the idea and the field as a whole. Research materials, create and question design. Really challenges user experience and preferences for light electric mobility. The new concept should be easy to use, durable and something genuinely new in design.
On a general level, we gave quite free hands and space to the students' own planning,
12 talented master's level industrial design students from different parts of the world were selected for the course itself. Nationalities were e.g. Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Poland, China, Finland, Norway and Sweden. We based the project of the year itself with comprehensive market and user research.
The purpose was to get a comprehensive picture of its current market offer and situation. Get an idea of usage, styles, pros and cons.
The goal was, and always is, to do something a little differently and better.
We are looking for leading goals and lines. We ended up with a list of four main principles - strong values:
1. Sustainable values
2. New ideas and design
3. Use of interesting materials
4. A functioning entity
"It was great to be part of a large multinational group running things, challenging and bringing knowledge and skill from my part about the manufacturing itself and the challenges it brings."
Samu , founder of Meeko Mobi
The e-scooter world needs real values. And to succeed, the world needs courage.
Some of the designers made a prototype of their own concepts.
Of course, the year's intense work rush culminated in a proper party. But officially it culminated in a 2 week open house exhibition.
The exhibition was organized in the flagship store of the Elisa mobile phone operator, in the heart of Helsinki.
The project challenged, frustrated and taught me a lot.
We already use several ideas in our current models.
Bigger ideas and entities progress on the desktop and are in the long test and prototype stages.
Meeko Mobi was founded in 2018 in Finland. In addition to Finland, we currently operate in Spain and the Czech Republic.
Meeko's electric scooters offer an environmentally friendly way to move from place to place. Meeko invests in quality and design, and environmental friendliness is one of our most important values
